Competitions and other allocations of contracting services are the interface between strategy and development on the one hand and planning and realisation of properties on the other hand. Durable has been supporting owners and developers for 15 years in the development and implementation of various allocation procedures and sets standards in the definition and realisation of sustainable goals.

Innovation through diversity in selection procedures

2-stage selection procedure for the Walke school building

The canton of Basel-Stadt is planning to build a primary school on the Walkeweg site. The Department of Building and Transport (BVD) has carried out a two-stage selection process with the aim of achieving the most innovative and sustainable project possible.

The first stage was carried out as an open ideas competition. This ensured sustainable innovation. The six ranked projects were then invited to take part in a architectural competition to develop the innovative ideas into projects.

Jörg Lamster was part of both juries in both procedures as an expert juror with voting rights.

Jury presidency for a sustainable pioneering project

Interdisciplinary competition for the renovation of the main building at RWTH Aachen

The Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB) has organised a project competition for the renovation of the listed main building of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) in Aachen. The main goal of the process is to enable an innovative renovation that meets the requirements of the RWTH with an overall sustainable approach.

The jury is made up of experts from various fields such as architecture, building physics, circular economics, building technology and sustainability. Jörg Lamster from Durable chaired the jury as the president and voting member.

Transformation of an industrial area

Development of the former Bally site in Schönenwerd (SO)

In 2017, the ECOREAL Anlagestiftung acquired the former Bally site in Schönenwerd (Solothurn) and is developing it as a sustainable mixed-use site. As part of this, an urban development competition with upstream pre-qualification is being carried out to determine the future project and the planning team.

Sustainability has a high priority in this process, which is why we are a member of the expert jury with voting rights. The programme for the process is based on the sustainability strategy, which which was developed in co-operation with Durable.

Architectural competition as the final stept of the development

Completion of the Bergacker competition for Habitat 8000

Habitat 8000 has carried out an architectural competition for a new development on its Bergacker site. The aim is to create a wide range of housing for all age groups and household types. The op-arch AG office won the tender. The phased

The project has a long history for Durable. In 2019, we were involved in a first test planning. In 2022, we were asked for an expert opinion on the preservation of existing buildings. Jörg Lamster was a voting jury member for the study commission and Thomas Wüthrich was an expert without voting rights.

Big goal with a streamlined competition process

Planner selection for a building renovation with focus on circular economy

The city of Uster owns an administrative building in Wagerenstrasse in Uster that needs to be renovated on a regular basis. The Building Department has developed a pilot planner selection procedure from this task, that calls for solutions for re-use measures in the context of the circular economy.

We had a seat as a specialist juror with voting rights and thus contributed to the formulation of the sustainability requirements and the determination of the winning project during the development of the programme and selection process.

Competition Rosental Centre for the Canton of Basel-Stadt

Competition process for the outdoor space development process

Immobilen Basel-Stadt has acquired large parts of the former Rosental industrial site and would like to develop it into an attractive neighbourhood for living and working in the long term. An urban development framework concept for the conversion already exists. In a study commissioned by Metron AG, the city sought a vision for the outdoor space as well as approaches for a set of rules.

The bidding consortium Studio Céline Baumann and Weyell Zipse Architekten won the tender. Durable accompanied the process with a focus on sustainability.
